The Middle Blingdom: Luxury Consumer Behavior in China

As the current economic crisis calls for sober times, let us brighten this grey picture by attending an event wrapped in luxury. The Chinese market for luxury products has grown significantly. What have been the main factors for this expansion? And more importantly: can we make predictions based on that? You can get a little taste of the topic in this Economist article.

Besides Dr. Lu’s positions at Fudan University School of Management and at ESSEC Paris, his luxury business and management consulting activities are helping many successful luxury brands in their operations in Asia and worldwide. As the author of “Elite China, Chinese Luxury Consumers” and “Luxury in China, Market Opportunities and Potentials”, he will be able to identify specific strategies for both international and Chinese luxury brands to succeed in the Chinese market.

Mr Hoogewerf’s contribution to the understanding of wealth in China has earned him multiple awards, notably Neweekly magazine’s 2002 Person of the Year and the Magnolia Award in 2009, the Shanghai government’s highest honour bestowed upon foreigners. Based on his exceptional understanding of the Chinese wealth, he will paint a precise description of the Chinese luxury consumer with all the means and ways to connect with him.
