The Evolving/Devolving Business Environment

for MNCs in China -Which Way is Forward?

Is China's investment and operating environment for MNCs deteriorating by regulator design - or is the more difficult environment simply the natural outcome of foreign capital now being (much) less needed and Chinese companies becoming much stronger competitors?

As always in China the signals are mixed. For example while structuring and financing options for foreign investors are becoming more flexible and attractive, tax engagement is becoming more difficult and uncertain - as is competing in sectors considered to be "core" by the State. This briefing will explore the dynamics shaping China's investment and operating environment for MNCs - worrisome internal imbalances, acute external pressures, and the development policy objectives outlined in the 12th five year plan - to ascertain the evolving opportunities and risks for foreign investors, and discuss how foreign companies can play to their strengths at this critical juncture in China's development.

Mr. David Hoffman is based at the China Center office in Beijing, and for 20 years previous, a top management consultant to the technology, telecom and media industries in Greater China.  David has over 25 years of deep, hands-on experience living and doing business in China at the senior-most levels.
