The Chinese government tries to connect CSR with the idea of the “harmonious society”, and has issued and revised several important laws to regulate the practices of business in a comprehensive way. It is important for foreign companies investing in China to understand the requirements and policy changes of the Chinese government and act accordingly.
Benelux companies, organisations and governments are increasingly actively endorsing CSR in China. A great number of Benelux companies expressed interest in a platform, in which they can share knowledge and receive information about CSR practices in China.
Therefore, BenCham and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Beijing decided to set up a Sino-Dutch Corporate Social Responsibility Platform. The idea behind this platform is to increase the effectiveness and give better exposure to CSR activities of Benelux companies, both in China and in the Benelux countries.
The Project to establish the CSR Platform commenced in June 2009 and will continue until March 2011.
Objectives of the Platform
The first objective to share knowledge and experience on CSR between Benelux organisations in China and their Chinese suppliers.
The second objective to provide the companies with specific CSR knowledge and tools. This will facilitate Benelux organisations in China to start implementing CSR in the Chinese supply chain and to dialogue with their Chinese partners.
The third objective is to create a joint CSR agenda between Benelux companies operating in China and other stakeholders active in CSR.
Role of BenCham
The “CSR Agenda 2010” is a project funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and executed by BenCham. The CSR agenda 2010 project is a extension to the CSR project started in 2009.
