Business Planning:
Interpreting Reports to Grow the Business

This program provides attendees with a thorough understanding of how a business is conducted, the factors considered in decision making and the implications of those decisions. A fundamental part of the program is gaining an understanding of the key reports and business levers available to a business owner.

The workshop is based on a business simulation exercise, which requires teams to manage a virtual business that competes in a marketplace. Teams preferably consist of 4 people, who take on the roles of CEO, Production Manager, Finance Manager and Sales and Marketing Manager. They are required to make 37 business decisions each quarter for a total of 8 quarters. The program is a highly engaging, fast paced and competitive approach to learning the key elements of what business is about. At the conclusion of the 2 day simulation, participants have a much greater appreciation of the internal and external challenges that face business owners and managers.

The course is particularly suited to large organisations that run management development or graduate training programs, or small to medium enterprises where staff need a good knowledge of the key elements to business success.

OBJECTIVES:
- Provide attendees with a greater understanding of how business operates and the challenges faced by managers
- Clarify the key elements that point towards generating revenue and profit and how the forces of competition can dictate the decisions that a business may make
- Equip attendees with the knowledge of how to interpret financial reports and ratios to gain insight into the “health” of an organisation
- Demonstrate the importance of team work in business decision making

OUTLINE:
This program covers the following key topic areas:
- Business structure types
- Understanding financial reports and their purpose in managing the health of the business
- Key ratios that stakeholders use to assess the fitness of a company
- Techniques managers use to plan and execute strategies
- Annual General Meeting presentation to shareholders
- 8 quarters of decision making

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This program was developed in partnership with the Australian Government and Fortune 100 companies to help schools and businesses identify and prepare managers to better understand business planning and how to make decisions based on detailed management reports.
This 2 day workshop will provide managers at all levels a greater insight into Operations, Marketing and Finance and strengthen their decision making skills leveraging information from all three areas of the business.
Entrepreneurs and Small Business Managers will also benefit by learning how to balance all three business areas to grow their businesses.
