The Netherlands Embassy in Beijing and the Netherland Business Support Office in Qingdao will organise an economic mission to Shandong province from 9 to 13 April 2017. The delegation will be headed by the Netherlands Embassy.

Shandong

Shandong province is located on the east coast of China covering a land area of 157,000 km2, with a population of 98 million. It is the second most populous province and third economic power in terms of GDP output after Guangdong and Jiangsu.

Qingdao is the economic center of Shandong province, and one of first open coastal cities in China. It is home to the world’s 7th biggest seaport in throughput handling. It is the base for many foreign companies in China and a total of 126 top 500 multinationals have invested in the city. Featured as marine economy, the city focuses on the following industries: logistics, shipbuilding & marine technology, ICT, water management, health care, wealth management, tourism and fishery. For Dutch companies there could be opportunities in for instance health care, water management, marine technology and trade.

Yantai is the largest industrial city in Shandong. The University of Groningen plans to establish a presence in Yantai; from 2017 it will be the first Dutch university to open a branch campus in China. The city focuses on the following industries: logistics, shipbuilding & marine technology, chemical, automotive, electronics & IT, and agro-food. For Dutch companies there could be opportunities in for instance high-end manufacturing, marine technology and machinery for food processing.

More information on Qingdao, Yantai and Shandong province can be found here. You can also download the Brochure Economic overview of Shandong province.

Economic mission

The economic mission to Qingdao and Yantai will be open to companies from all sectors, in particular those mentioned above. Especially Dutch companies who are already active in other parts of China and who wish to explore opportunities in these two cities, are invited to join.  During the four-day visit, the delegation will meet with local government leaders and be introduced to the latest economic policies and developments. Individual matchmaking and networking events will be organised, as well as visits to leading companies and economic areas.

Participation and cost

The cost of participation is RMB 2.000 (appr. Euro 275) per participant. This includes participation in the program of the mission (visits, events, matchmaking) and joint meals. Participants will have to pay for their own travel (incoming to Qingdao and outgoing from Yantai), accommodation expenses and (if needed) individual interpreter.

To participate, please fill in the registration form and email to pek-ea@minbuza.nl . Deadline for registration is 15 January 2017. In principle, we aim to limit the number of participating companies to 20 with a maximum of two participants per company.
